Exeter School has built a proud reputation over almost four centuries. Because of this history, we stand as a centre for educational excellence in the south-west. Over time, therefore, the school has evolved into something genuinely contemporary. Today, we run a vibrant, forward-thinking independent school of the highest quality. We never stand still, however, since we always seek to move ahead.
Preparing Pupils for Life Beyond School
We prepare pupils for an ever-changing life beyond school. This means we look further than exam results alone. As a result, we build genuine skills for the world pupils will actually enter.
A Foundation Built on Vision
Those who came before us shaped this foundation. Their vision, along with their willingness to seize opportunities, gave us real strength today. Consequently, we honour that legacy by continuing to evolve ourselves.
Our Culture of Excellence
We challenge every member of our Exonian community to excel beyond expectations. In turn, this helps them lead fulfilling, happy, and genuinely productive lives. Ultimately, we want our pupils to contribute positively to the lives of others, both now and later.
A culture of excellence underpins everything we do at Exeter School. Alongside this, pastoral care and academic challenge work hand in hand. Meanwhile, character development threads through daily school life, not just assemblies or set lessons.
Our School and Facilities
We’re an all-through, co-educational independent day school for ages 3 to 18. Therefore, pupils progress seamlessly from Pre-Prep right through to Sixth Form. Our main site spans roughly 25 acres in the heart of Exeter. Consequently, pupils benefit from extensive facilities: a 25m indoor pool, sports hall, and 3G astro-turf pitch, alongside well-equipped music, art, and science spaces.
Beyond the Classroom
Beyond academics, we offer a genuinely broad co-curricular programme. This includes CCF, Duke of Edinburgh, and the demanding Ten Tors expedition. Similarly, our Futures Programme builds real employability skills, using mock interviews and professional partnerships to prepare Sixth Formers for what’s next.
Pastoral Care and well-being
We also maintain strong pastoral and safeguarding provision throughout the school. Our house system, alongside dedicated learning support, ensures every pupil gets tailored care. Because we take well-being seriously, we’ve built mindfulness and PSHE into everyday school life too.
Tradition and Progress, Together
At Exeter School, therefore, tradition and progress work together. We draw on nearly four hundred years of history while constantly looking forward. As a result, every Exonian leaves prepared, confident, and ready to make their mark on the world.
