On Saturday, Upper Fifth (Year 11) pupil Monty completed his first ever marathon, running an impressive 42.6km from Tiverton up and across Exmoor. The challenging route followed the River Exe as closely as possible, covering 1,126 metres of elevation across demanding and often rough terrain.
Monty was invited to join John Mildmay-White for day three of his extraordinary challenge. John is running 400 miles from Mothecombe to London in support of Run for the Rivers, a project aiming to raise awareness of the challenges facing the UK’s rivers and seas, while also making a documentary along the way.
A keen runner, Monty has found running to be a place where he can switch off and escape. Remarkably, he had not specifically planned or trained for the marathon distance, making his achievement even more impressive. To complete such a demanding run at just 15 years old is a testament to his determination, resilience and mental strength. Well done, Monty!
