Cross country goes from strength to strength

Following the success at the district cross country event two weeks ago, 19 pupils competed in the Exeter vs East Devon Schools’ Cross Country Championships at Blundell’s School on Wednesday and there were some more memorable performances for Exeter pupils. Evie (3F) came 1st in the Year 7 girls, Penelope (U5) 1st in Inter Girls and Rory (L6) 1st in Senior boys. There was also a 3rd place finish for George (4F) in Junior boys, Daniel (L5) placed 8th in Junior boys, Ben (L5) 9th in the same event. Barnaby finished 14th in Year 7 boys and Omar – 9th in Inter boys. The girls were also in fine form with Sophie (5th) and Lisa (7th) running superbly in the Inter girls race, Honor (3F) finishing 4th in the Year 7 girls and Lydia (L5) placed 14th in Junior Girls.

Incredibly 13 out of 19 pupils have qualified for the Devon Schools Cross Country Championships on Saturday 24 January at Kingsley School, Bideford. Something to be very proud of. All of our pupils who represented the school were brilliant against a competitive East Devon side and all were a credit to the school.

In other cross country news, Rory (L6) continues to excel on the national stage. Rory finished 1st in the U17 category of the UK cross country event held in Liverpool last weekend . The U17s also ran against the U20s with a chance of selection for the European cross country challenge. Rory finished 14th in the event, a remarkable achievement given he is only in the lower sixth. Well done Rory.
