Exeter School sport was back in full swing last week following the summer break. The school senior hockey squad as well as the U15, U14, and U13 teams travelled to pre-season festivals in Taunton and Blundell’s in the first week of term as they prepared for an exciting fixture card as well as the cup competitions. There were also senior trial matches against Exeter College and Plymouth College as coaches looked to put together their squads for the first cup matches and block fixtures. This preparation obviously paid off as the U16 girls started their national cup campaign with a memorable win against a very competent Kingswood School from Bath. Two well executed short corners from Exeter meant the game finished 2-2 after full time and following a nerve racking set of penalty shuffles Exeter finished victorious and will face Sherborne Girls’ in the next round.
The rugby squads were also in action participating in pre-season festivals hosted at home and Wellington School. Six schools brought large squads to what was a fabulous day of rugby full of fast flowing play and great sportsmanship. It was excellent preparation for the first full block of the season this weekend against QEH Bristol and the first round of the national cup next week. The U18s play Ivybridge College away and the U15s King’s, College Taunton on the road. We wish them well.
