Junior Reflections Week 30 May 2025

Dear parents,

Terrific support

Monday was kicked off with house assemblies whereby the whole school community met with other pupils across the year groups and shared all the things that they had to look forward to. House captains did a fantastic job of leading each assembly on the theme of teamwork, as part of mental health awareness week. There were some brilliant discussions from each of the houses about the ways they can support and encourage each other.

Creativity abound

Upper One have been particularly busy this week writing suspense-filled stories, they created their own detective, along with a nemesis, a sidekick, a special gadget, and an extraordinary vehicle for them to travel around in. Alongside this in DT they have been planning and making pizzas. Huge excitement and delicious smells have been wafting down the corridors with the highlight of choosing their toppings and making their own dough. Lower Two classes have been busy painting their clay gargoyles in art, always a highlight and I still have my child’s gargoyle proudly displayed at home. Not only did they have fun creating their own, but they also enjoyed finding out all about gargoyles and are looking forward to their walk into Exeter where they will observe the gargoyles at the cathedral. As always, a hive of activity in our classrooms.

Sports

The weather was kind for all our sports fixtures this week with the lower school travelling across county to West Buckland and having a super afternoon of cricket – both girls and boys enjoyed a set of entertaining matches. Good luck to the upper school this afternoon, and to the athletics team who are taking part in their first meet of the season over at Blundell’s.

Summer fete

We have our summer fete coming up in a couple of weeks, Saturday 7 June, 1-4pm. I do hope to see many of you there. It is going to be a lot of fun with food and drink stalls as well. There will be a bottle tombola which is being organised by the junior school parents – if you are able to donate a bottle of some description for this stall it would be much appreciated. Bottles can be dropped off at the bursary.

Inset day reminder

A reminder that there is a staff inset day on the first Monday after half term with the first day of school being on Tuesday 3 June.

Enjoy the weekend and if you are visiting the Devon County Show on Saturday do pop in to our stand and say hello we would love to see you – we can be found on Stand 29, Avenue A.

Looking forward to welcoming @hamishpercy to Exeter School tomorrow. Hamish will be working with our sports scholars delivering some media training and discussing public speaking, interview skills and social media sports profiles.

After studying History at the University of Nottingham and completing a Masters in Sports Journalism at St. Mary’s University, Twickenham, Hamish went on to start his career freelancing with BT Sport Rugby before moving to Premier League Productions for 4 years. He then had a brief stint freelance presenting in the world of sport.

Hamish subsequently moved to SPORTbible, part of the LADbible Group, to launch their YouTube channel in September 2024 and has grown the channel to have over 71M views, securing major sponsorships with brands like Domino’s along the way. He has been lucky enough to interview stars like Luke Littler (Darts), Jasprit Bumrah (Cricket), Carlos Alcaraz (Tennis), Harry Kane (Football), Maro Itoje (Rugby), Naomi Osaka (Tennis) and more who all feature on the channel.
