In January, one of our peripatetic music teachers, Sam Massey, was one of seven nominees of the Music Inspiration Award at the Music and Drama Education Awards in London. This award recognises an individual music teacher or performer who has had an impressively inspirational impact on students of any age in their music, with the winners chosen by a panel of expert judges who have a vast knowledge of such a rich and diverse sector.
Sam was nominated for his extensive work at Ivybridge Community College the Ivybridge Music Centre. He was also recognised for his far reaching contribution to music education across Devon through his involvement with Devon Youth Chamber Brass, South Devon Youth Jazz and SaMM (Saturday Morning Music), as well has being the Music Development Lead for Exeter and Strategic Lead for Progression and Music Development with the Devon Music Education Hub.
It was a great achievement for Sam to be shortlisted for such a prestigious award and reflecting on his experience, he said:
“Sadly, I did not win the award but was amongst the finalists and it was a privilege to be nominated alongside some of the country’s top music educators.”
