U12 Boys Crowned Devon County Cricket Champions
The Exeter School U12 boys’ cricket team claimed the Devon County Cricket Championship after a superb all-round performance in Friday’s hard-fought final.
The team showed resilience, determination and excellent teamwork throughout the match. They recovered from a difficult start before producing a disciplined bowling display to secure a memorable victory. The title rewards the players’ commitment throughout the season and marks another proud achievement for cricket at Exeter School.
A remarkable recovery with the bat
Mount Kelly made an excellent start and reduced Exeter to 10 for 4 in the opening overs. However, the team refused to let the game slip away. Instead, the players remained calm and rebuilt the innings with maturity and confidence.
Smart shot selection, positive running between the wickets and valuable partnerships gradually shifted the momentum back towards Exeter. Harry led the recovery with a superb innings of 49 runs. His knock gave the team renewed belief and helped Exeter reach a competitive total of 117 all out.
Every batter made an important contribution. Together, those efforts gave the bowlers a score they could defend.
Clinical bowling secures the county title
Exeter took to the field with confidence and immediately put Mount Kelly under pressure. The bowlers found their rhythm from the opening over and limited the scoring opportunities throughout the innings.
The fielders matched that intensity with sharp catches, athletic stops and excellent support in the field. Their energy and commitment created constant pressure and prevented Mount Kelly from building any momentum.
Freddie led the bowling attack with three important wickets. Exeter eventually bowled Mount Kelly out for 75, sealing a deserved county title.
Representing Devon on the national stage
Winning the Devon County Championship means the team will now represent the county in next season’s national competition as an U13 side.
The tournament will give the players the opportunity to compete against some of the strongest school cricket teams in the country. It will also provide valuable experience as they continue to develop their skills and enjoy playing together.
Congratulations to every member of the squad on this fantastic achievement. Their resilience, teamwork and determination shone throughout the final. The entire Exeter School community looks forward to following their progress as they represent both Devon and Exeter School on the national stage next season.
