Exeter School girls’ 1st XI produced a composed and competitive performance to secure a hard-fought victory over Blundell’s School in an entertaining fixture played in fine conditions.
Having won the toss, Exeter elected to bat first and made a confident start. The innings was anchored superbly by Thea R, who delivered an outstanding knock of 67 from 60 balls, including 11 well-struck boundaries. She was supported effectively by Lottie (15) and Rose (23), both contributing valuable runs to maintain momentum through the middle overs. Exeter finished their innings on a competitive 131 for 20 overs.
In response, Blundell’s mounted a determined chase, keeping the game finely balanced throughout. However, Exeter’s bowlers applied consistent pressure, with Thea R completing an exceptional all-round performance by taking 4 wickets for just 7 runs.
The match went down to a tense final over, with Blundell’s requiring 13 runs to win. Lucy V showed great composure under pressure, delivering a disciplined final over to restrict the batting side and secure victory for Exeter.
This was a strong team performance, highlighted by individual excellence and calm execution in key moments.
Thanks to our photographer Mark Lockett for the incredible shots of our 25 acre site in the heart of Exeter city itself, a stone’s throw from the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital where many of our parents work and our Young Changemakers have a chance to learn about Hospiscare. We love our location and great summer evenings like this. The photos of the hot air balloon from Fly Away Ballooning over our school also made a perfect touch to a great evening’s play.
