Despite the weather, the U16 squad had a fantastic day of Rugby 7s on Wednesday finishing as runners up in the Devon 7s, which was held at West Buckland School. It marks the start of the 7s season, with the West of England and National 7s taking place in the next three weeks; this group should be excited about their prospects.
They easily beat Uffculme (47-7) and Colyton Grammar School (38 – 12) in the group stages before winning their semi final in a much tougher fixture against the hosts (33-12). It set up a really exciting final against Ivybridge, a team they had beaten in the national 15-a-side cup last year. Exeter played their part in an excellent final but spent a significant amount of it without the ball. Despite this they scored two excellent tries eventually losing 26-12 to a very good Ivybridge side. A superb effort by all involved. They can look forward to the West of England tournament of Sunday 9 March.
