A fixture against Blundell’s was the perfect start to the hockey term and the Exeter teams started their seasons really well. The 1st XI will have been delighted with their performance drawing 2 – 2 at home thanks to a superb team goal finished off by Marcus Neary. There were also wins for the U15B, U14B and U13A&B. However, perhaps the most exciting matches were the narrow defeats for the U15A and U12A. The U15A conceding a goal with the last hit of the game to lose 1-2 and the U12A losing by a single goal (2-3) in their first match for the senior school.
The national cup also got underway this week with a visit to King’s Bruton for the U16s. It proved to be another end-to-end match with Exeter losing a thrilling contest 2-3.
Mr Jones (Head of Hockey) said “I was delighted with the boys’ performance and despite the disappointment of losing we now progress to the plate competition where this group could do really well”.
Mid-week opponents, King’s Bruton, play Exeter in a block this week at 1st XI, 2nd XI, U15 and U14 level. Let’s hope for some more exciting fixtures!
