Exeter School’s swing/funk band, Swunk, had fun on Field Day, inspiring youngsters from local primary school, Whipton Barton.
The sixth form group spent the morning in the Music Hall, rehearsing various numbers and planning the workshop. After a quick lunch at school, the minibus was loaded up, and Mr Tamblyn drove the band to the venue. The band performed two sets, to Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 pupils, demonstrating their instruments, encouraging the children to clap along to the rhythms and answering their questions.
The visit complements Exeter School’s musical links with Whipton Barton – since September, senior pupils involved in the Exeter School Musical Partnership programme have been leading singing sessions with Year 5 pupils on Wednesday afternoons.
An entertaining afternoon was had by all, and hopefully some of the primary school pupils will now be inspired to take up an instrument and play jazz.
