U13 Triangular Tournament

U13 v Blundell’s - lost 0 – 15

U13 v Queen’s College, Taunton - lost 10 – 15

"In contrasting conditions for home and away teams good progression was shown by all teams this weekend," said Head of Rugby Mr Ross.

"Against West Buckland the 1st XV and U16 XV had to contend with a heavy rain shower that started on the whistle and lasted 20 minutes. Unfortunately for the U16 team the match was abandoned due to a bad injury sustained by one of the West Buckland players.

"The 1st XV made hard work of it in the rain but turned on a bit of style in the second half, getting their offload game working with the slippery ball to run in 4 tries after half time. The U15 side proved too quick for their opposition in the backline running in some sublime tries.

"The U14A showed progression from last week as the new and old pupils’ continue to learn how to play together with the score line perhaps a little unfair to the competitive nature of the game. The U12 side put in a gritty performance with excellent commitment in the tackle for another good win.

The U13s travelled to Blundell’s for a triangular tournament with Blundell’s School and Queen’s College, Taunton.

"With a large squad of players all getting good time on the pitch there are plenty of positives with over 25 boys now having played in the A team already this season.

U15A XV v West Exe - County Cup - walkover

County Cup

U14A XV v Tiverton High School - won 27 – 10

"This was a first win for the U14 team this season and demonstrated how the boys have started to learn about how each other play and work together," said Head of Rugby Mr Ross.

"The play was very much in a Barbarian fashion with the ball moved across the pitch to space to score 5 good tries against a physical and athletic Tiverton HS team."

Mr Bird said: “It was great to see the boys take what they had practised in training on to the pitch and look to move the ball to space. This is another good learning opportunity as we move on to a challenging match against QEH, Bristol on Saturday.”

U12A v Blundell's School- lost 10 – 25

U12B XII v Blundell's School - won 55 – 0

"In the first A and B team fixture of the year for the U12s, two well spirited games were contested in more unseasonal September downpours," said Mr Ross.

"However, this did not stop the desire for all the teams to move the ball round and play two very entertaining matches in front of a good sized crowd. The A team match was a very even contest that ebbed and flowed throughout with both teams enjoying periods of dominance and some exceptional play. Exeter unfortunately couldn’t convert all of their chances where Blundell’s did."

The B team showed the strength in depth of the year group with a comprehensive performance.

Director of Sport Mr Mason said: “This was a great opportunity to have a look at how the players conducted themselves against strong opposition, who beat them comprehensively last year in the Junior School fixture, and in testing conditions.

"The players will have learnt a lot from this game and we can move forward from it and improve ."
