Upper Two bring riverside tale to life
Year Six present Wind in the Willows
The annual end-of-year programme for Upper Two (Year Six) includes an activity day at Haven Banks, a Health and Safety day, a weekend residential and a play presented by the whole year-group.
This year's play was a colourful, action-packed musical based on the children's classic The Wind in the Willows. Expertly directed by Miss Rose Bewley, with musical accompaniment by Mr Julian Sutton and Mrs Rachel Mitchell, the show chronicled the adventures of the affable but maverick Mr Toad (of Toad Hall), and of his friends Ratty, Mole and Badger, constantly obliged to save Mr Toad from the consequences of whatever happens to be his latest craze. The action brought us an on-stage car crash, the sentencing of Toad to twenty years in prison, an audacious jail escape, Toad's ignominious dunking in the river at the hands of an outraged bargewoman, and the glorious liberation of Toad Hall from an army of invading weasels. The stunning woodland stage set was the perfect background against which to show off the colourful costumes made by Mrs Michelle Giles and Mrs L Tresidder, as well as the finely-judged animal make-up by Mrs Nikola Ricketts.
The show played throughout to capacity houses and provided wonderful entertainment for all ages.
