Sports Pundit lectures at Exeter School
Pupils at Exeter School welcomed BBC football commentator Jonathan Pearce on 31 January to their first Crossing Club meeting of 2008.
Mr Pearce provided a fascinating insight into the world of journalism and the media. In his talk, he certainly didn't glamorize the world of which he has been part:
Hard work, good luck and meticulous attention to detail are all required if you are going to get a foot on that career ladder. But beyond that a journalist must want to use words to create a picture, whether for a reader or a listener. Anyone involved in media must accept that some compromises have to be made in terms of what can be said and written. But it remains a fascinating and rewarding career.
Mr Pearce spoke for 40 minutes, answered the many questions that were put to him from the floor, and stayed on to talk to pupils more informally and sign a few autographs
