Celebration of 20 Years of Full Co-Education
Over two hundred past pupils, many with their young families, former staff and Governors joined current staff for the celebration event to mark 20 years of full co-education on the afternoon of Saturday 16 June.
The weather stayed fine and the school looked magnificent with marquee, gazebos, bunting, green lawns and colourful flowerbeds. A willing band of Senior Prefects and Sixth Form helpers took tours of both the Senior and Junior School, organised face painting for the children, and operated the photo booth.
Around the site, more Sixth Formers helped run the bouncy castle, kindly provided for the event by Laser Camp, and supervised swimmers young and not so young in the new school pool. On the Paddock in front of the Exonian Centre, school music groups Swunk and Swunkettes entertained the crowds, while in the Sixth Form common room a collection of photos provided memories of the development of full coeducation over the last 20 years.
A highlight of the afternoon was the prosecco cream tea provided by the kitchen staff, and a celebration CoEd20 cake baked especially for the occasion.
Headmaster Bob Griffin gave a short welcome speech and Director of Alumni John Davidson talked about how the development of full co-education had changed the school and how much the school values its community of past pupils and staff keeping in touch and returning to help out with school programmes. We hope to see many of our alumni at events held at school and around the country in the future.
