U9A v Millfield Prep - won 2 - 1

On Wednesday the U9A football team had the opportunity to play Millfield school. "The boys had a little extra time which they used to enjoy a very useful pre-match training session," said Mr Pidwell.

"Once at Millfield the boys played with huge enthusiasm and, for a first game, a lot of discipline. The boys kept their shape very well and had the majority of possession.

"Oliver Lister performed well in goal putting in some great saves. The only goal he allowed in was mainly due to a rather annoying “bobble.” Joseph Lomas, Mitchell Harreld and Lochie Hughes were all very strong in defence and developed their man marking skills.

"Reuben Tucker was strong in the midfield, scored a super goal and captained the team to an impressive first victory. Matthew Cooper, Finlay Murray and Theo Lawrence were all good on the wing; with Theo putting in some super crosses and scoring a memorable goal.

"William Ahmad, playing as striker, kept his position well and made sure the opposition had to leave players from their attack to mark him. Overall, a great team performance and start to the season. Well worth the trip."

U8A v Millfield Prep - lost 1 - 6 (Pengxiao Zhu)

"The score line certainly didn’t tell the whole story in this one!" said Mr Ashman.

"The boys can take great credit for a committed team performance and I was very impressed with their positional sense and desire to look up, when in possession. The main difference between the two teams was the clinical finishing of our opponents, whilst we didn’t make the most of the opportunities presented.

"All the boys thoroughly enjoyed the experience of playing and dining at one of the premier sporting schools in the country. Special mentions to Dexter Leck and Huw Phillips for solid performances at the back, Vincent Dong for covering plenty of ground in midfield and Pengxiao Zhu for a very impressive overall performance and for being our main attacking threat. Well done, lads!"
