OEs take football title

1st XI v alumni

The annual fixture between the school 1st XI and the Old Exonians took place in superb weather and was a very competitive and entertaining affair.

Injuries to key players and unavailability robbed the 1st XI of three of its more influential players. In spite of this, an untried and generally incomprehensible defensive set up by the OEs ensured that the game was pretty even in the early stages!

“The 1st XI made a very positive start and found itself 2 – 0 up within ten minutes,” said Mr Ashman.

“A change of formation for the OEs had a major impact on the game and they came back very strongly to even things up and then take the lead before the break. A fourth goal for the Old Exonians effectively ended the game as a contest.

“However, the 1st XI boys can take great heart from the resilience which they showed in the latter stages. They continued to probe and to try to create openings and, if they had scored a third, it would have made for an interesting finish!”

· 1st XI – 2 (Joey Bown, Ed Lister)

· Old Exonians – 4 (Will Bedford 2, Graeme Martin (pen), Nic Horne)
