Rugby

Saturday 13 October

1st XV v Queen's College, Taunton - won 38 – 10

"The weather played havoc with the rugby fixtures this week with the extreme of dry and hard pitches replaced by storms with heavy wind and rain," said Mr Ross.

"This led to just the one fixture on Saturday as all other age groups had to be unfortunately cancelled.

"The 1st XV finished off the half term with two good performances, first on Wednesday with a come from behind victory over a strong Truro outfit, and a well-executed final game of this half term against Queen’s College.

"Notable performances in the wind from Tom Watkinson at fly-half with his game management and a first half hat-trick for winger Charlie Pullen who is currently on 12 tries in total so far this season."

U14 Devon Finals

The U14 girls played in the Devon Finals at Plymouth Marjon University.

"They drew with Holsworthy and beat Shebbear and Torquay in the section games," said Mrs Marsh.

"They won their section and played West Buckland in the Quarter Finals winning 1-0. They played Blundell's in the semi finals and at full time it was 1-1 so they had to complete penalty flicks. Exeter won 3-2.

"They played Mount Kelly in the finals winning 3-0 and are Devon Champions, progressing to the West Finals after half term.

"Well done to the girls for a day of excellent hockey. They conceded only one goal during play and scored 14 goals."

Football

Wednesday 17 October

1st XI v Queen's College, Taunton - won 2 – 0 (Sam Corney, Angus Harris)

"This was a new addition to the fixture list, so we weren’t quite sure what to expect!" said Mr Ashman.

"However, as with most fixtures against Queen’s, it ended up being very competitive and an excellent addition to our card. We certainly learned the lessons from last week and played with much more intensity from the first whistle.

"We dominated territorially, without having the cutting edge needed to create a decent opening. We ended up going ahead through a goal which will receive no votes for ‘goal of the month’ as the opposition keeper cleared the ball into the back of Sam Corney and it looped back over him into an empty net!

"The half-time chat revolved around better game management and slowing the game down a bit. The boys certainly followed the plan to perfection and ended up dominating possession and creating enough chances to win ten games!

"Sadly, some profligate finishing meant that we had to dig in and the game was only made safe with a few minutes to go through a composed finish from Angus Harris.

"Overall, it had been an excellent workout and sufficient progress was made in certain key areas to ensure that there is plenty of optimism in the camp for the matches to come in the second half of term. Well done, lads!"
