Alumni inspire Sixth Formers
The Upper Sixth Futures Programme started this week with a visit from 10 alumni who spoke to the group about their university courses and gap years.
The Exonians ranged from 2015 leavers and upwards and they all took part in the afternoon, which included 'careers style' speed-dating.
Max Brewer has just completed his BSc Hons degree in Economics from the University of Nottingham. Daisy Waggett is studying Geography at Edinburgh, Becky Richardson is currently studying Medicine at Nottingham, and Charlie Green is on a Medicine course at Bristol.
Hannah Francis is studying English and French at Birmingham, Lucy Palk is studying Economics and Politics at Reading and Martin Cull is studying Natural Sciences at Nottingham.
Jim Shepherd has just completed his gap year for which he enjoyed the ski season and working in the Junior School. He is now heading off to study Geography and Management at Loughborough University. Jack Thomas is also studying Geography at Loughborough University whereas Robbie Bell is studying Natural Sciences at Durham.
The alumni chatted informally to the Upper Sixth about their university experiences and gave advice about their courses and settling in. They also offered guidance about finances and accommodation and recommended getting involved in clubs and societies.
Head of Sixth Form Ali Marsh said it was an extremely useful exercise.
“I am very grateful to the OEs for giving up their time to come into school and support the Upper Sixth,” she said.
“They are an invaluable resource, as they are currently in the process, and have so many useful tips for the Upper Sixth as they prepare for the next phase of their journey.”
