Exonians London Lunch
Browns Covent Garden was the attractive venue for the inaugural Exonians London Lunch on 17 October 2017. Past pupils from the 1950s to 2000s enjoyed a delicious two-course buffet. They were joined by the Bursar Commodore Richard Hawkins, Director of Alumni Relations John Davidson, Deputy Head Lyndsay Hilton and Alumni Secretary Karen Dart.
It was lovely to welcome to former teachers, David Hughes (1984 - 2002) from the Maths department and Richard Snailham (1957 - 1965) who was Head of History. John summarised recent school news and then introduced the guest speaker, Peter Gorley (1953 - 1961) whose subject was “The Wines of Languedoc-Roussillon”. Peter gave an illustrated overview of this seductive region, and its history and wines. Drawing on his own personal connections with winemakers there, he described several Domaines and their specialities. Appropriately, the guests had enjoyed glasses of red and white wines from the region with their meal.
Those who love wines and wine making regions can find more information in Peter’s illustrated books Gorley's Guide: The Wines of Languedoc-Roussillon Paperback (2002) by Peter John Gorley (Author), Jessica White (Illustrator), and the new ebook edition The Wines and Winemakers of Languedoc-Roussillon by Peter Gorley (2015)
