Informal String Concert
The first of our two annual informal string concerts happened on Wednesday after school, featuring 16 solo items and concluding with one of the school’s String Quartets.
There was an especially strong contingent of 9 pupils from the Junior school, which would indicate that their early exposure to the joys of stringed instruments within group violin lessons in Form One has inspired them to continue playing.
The audience was treated to confident performances featuring works by composers including Blackwell, Mollenhauer, Purcell and Suzuki, with all the pupils appearing comfortable on stage. Tuning can prove a challenge when playing strings, however even the youngest of our pupils are clearly developing keen ears to ensure musical performances were achieved.
Violin teachers Mr Gillett, Ms Hayek and Miss Willson along with ‘cello teacher Mrs Allnatt were all in attendance supporting and encouraging their pupils, whilst most of the performances were accompanied by Mr Daldorph.
A recording can be heard online.
Our next informal concert will be happening on 10 January when the brass players will be performing, but before then there is the Advent Carol Service in the Chapel at 5pm, the concert in aid of the National Trust on Tuesday 5 December in the Cathedral at 7.30pm, the Junior Carol Service in the Senior School Hall on Tuesday 12 December at 2.15pm and the School Christmas Concert at 7.30pm on Thursday 14 December, also in the Senior School Hall. We look forward to seeing you at one or more of these events.
