Exeter Junior School pupils take part in biggest drama festival in the world

Shakespeare Schools Festival

Exeter Junior School pupils from Lower Two and Upper Two Drama Club performed ‘Julius Caesar’ at the Exeter Phoenix on Monday 13 November as part of the biggest drama festival in the world – the Shakespeare Schools Festival.

Two secondary schools also took part in the evening, both performing Shakespeare plays. Our children were first up, opening the whole event with a polished presentation of this complicated play. They spoke their lines clearly so that even up in the gallery, the audience could hear every word.

More than that, they gave meaning to the lines with an understanding that belied their years.

English Coordinator Rita Pettet said: “They held their own and more, among more mature performers and I was hugely proud of each and every one of them.

“Off stage, they supported the other casts with well-wishes and encouragement and were exuberant and excited to watch their performances.

“It was a wonderful evening; a great experience for the children and also for all the teachers involved.”
