Welcome to Hildesheim exchange party
English weather fails to dampen spirits
Twenty German pupils from the Scharnhorstgymnasium in Hildesheim near Hannover in northern Germany have enjoyed a taste of typical English weather, gained an insight into the workings of a thriving independent school, and been entertained and well looked after by their English host families.
After a rainy arrival on 2 November, they were taken on a visit to the Underground Passages in Exeter, followed by a well-prepared tour of Exeter in German by some of the Year 11 GCSE pupils.
A cultural day trip to Bath was unfortunately accompanied by more rain, but all were able to experience some better weather at the weekend.
Mrs Wilson’s German class doubled in size when the visitors participated in her lessons at School, where the German pupils enjoyed teaching and helping their English partners to talk about health and fitness.
Thanks go to all the parents who have willingly provided food, accommodation and a great welcome to our guests, and to the teachers who accommodated pupils and staff in their lessons.
As expected, the roots of some long-lasting friendships have been formed this week and it has been an invaluable experience for many. We look forward to our return visit in February.
