Vice-Admiral Sir Alan Massey is Guest of Honour

Speech Day 2011

On Thursday 15 September, Exeter School held its annual Speech Day in a packed main hall, in the presence of the Deputy Lord Mayor.

The Chairman of Governors, Mrs Beverley Meeke, spoke about the school’s achievements and congratulated the pupils and staff upon another year’s outstanding work. She highlighted the Governors’ on-going commitment to supporting the development of the school’s facilities, especially in the light of the school’s record pupil roll of 888 at the start of the academic year. The Headmistress of Exeter Junior School, Mrs Alison Turner, and the Headmaster presented their reports and the prizes were awarded by the Guest of Honour, Vice-Admiral Sir Alan Massey KCB CBE, who was lately the Second Sea Lord and is now the Chief Executive Officer of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.

Sir Alan then addressed the audience of pupils, parents, staff and Governors and gave an inspirational endorsement of the educational values embraced by the school. A school Governor himself, he expressed his warm appreciation of all that he had heard about the school and commended the pupils upon their excellent involvement in and attitude towards school life, which he had observed during a most enjoyable visit to the school.
