Under the skin of global politics
International Model United Nations Conference at Royal Russell School
Between 15 and 18 October, eleven Exeter School pupils participated in the Royal Russell School’s International Model United Nations Conference.
With around 560 delegates present from as far away as Japan and the USA, our pupils from the Sixth Form represented three delegations: Bahrain, Norway and the Russian Federation. Each delegate was assigned a certain committee, ranging from Human Rights to Disarmament, and through lobbying, debate and voting a number of resolutions were passed relating to the issues that the real UN has to face every day.
Chris Clay received a ‘Distinguished Delegate’ award for his role in representing the Russian Federation in the Security Council, and everyone learnt a great deal about how to put their views across, and how to persuade and compromise, whilst discovering how global politics works.
All members of the group thoroughly enjoyed what turned out to be an unforgettable trip. A special thank you must go to Mrs Wilson and Dr Wilson for accompanying the delegates to the conference and advising them to the best of their ability.
We now look forward to the Exeter School MUN conference which will take place on Saturday 19 November.
