The Mathematics Department teaches Mathematics at Key Stage 3, IGCSE and A Level. The Head of Department is Mrs Emma Cartwright, who has been in post since 2014. There are seven full-time and four part-time teachers who use nine teaching rooms spread across the Daw and Goodall Buildings. The subject follows the Edexcel IGCSE curriculum and offers Edexcel Maths and Further Maths specifications at A Level. The department’s overarching teaching philosophy is based on research findings, in particular from the Mathematics Enhancement Programme run by the Centre for Innovation in Mathematics Teaching. The department runs a variety of enrichment activities including individual and team Maths challenges. It regularly contributes guest speakers to the school’s programme for gifted and talented pupils, as well as running in-house lectures on advanced mathematical topics to interested Sixth Form pupils.
