The History Department teaches History at Key Stage 3, GCSE and A Level. The Head of Department is Mr Giles Trelawny, who has been in post since September 2007. There are three full-time and two part-time teachers who use four specialist history teaching rooms in the Daw Building. The subject follows the AQA History B specification to GCSE and the Edexcel History specification at A Level. The department runs two enrichment activities: the History Society (primarily for Sixth Form pupils) and regular lectures given by visiting academic historians in association with the Exeter branch of the Historical Association. Recent speakers have included Professor Eric Evans, Dr Bruce Coleman and Professor Mark Stoyle. The Department runs three Field Day activities: a walk for Year 7 around the sites of Medieval Exeter; a walk on Dartmoor giving an introduction to Landscape History aimed at Year 9 pupils; and the very popular annual First World War Battlefields Tour to Ypres and the Somme attended by all Year 9 pupils.
