Geography

The Geography Department teaches Geography at Key Stage 3, GCSE and A Level. The Head of Department is Mrs Helen Sail, who has been in post since September 2007. There are three full-time and two part-time teachers who use five teaching rooms in the Andrews building. The subject follows the OCR B specification to GCSE and the OCR specification at A Level. The department runs a number of enrichment activities including a branch of the Geographical Association for Sixth Form pupils, Worldwise quizzes for younger pupils, and gifted and talented geographer conferences for pupils at KS3. Pupils are encouraged to enter competitions and such as the David Smith Essay Competition and the Young Geographer of the Year competition. There have been recent trips to Sorrento, the Alps and Iceland and day field courses feature locations such as Dawlish, Dartmoor, Bristol, The Isle of Purbeck, Lyme Regis and London Docklands and Cheddar Gorge.
