Design & Technology
The Design and Technology Department teaches resistant materials, control system and graphics at Key Stage 3 through a series of projects which challenge and extend pupils. At GCSE the department undertakes a year of skills development in making, designing and communication, to equip pupils to meet the demands of a design and make assignment in their final year. At A Level pupils undertake a product study and participate in an Advanced Innovation Challenge. The Head of Department is Mr Martin Rose, who has been teaching in the school since September 2016. There are two full-time teachers and a technician who use two workshops and a computer suite in the Townsend Building. The subject follows the CIE IGCSE curriculum to GCSE and the OCR specification at A Level. The department is open most lunchtimes for pupils to develop their skills. It organises periodic lectures and runs trips to local factories to contextualise the industrial practices being taught and visits the Jaguar and Morgan factories early in the summer term. There is a popular Wire Controlled Buggy Challenge for Year 9 pupils.
