Chemistry

The Chemistry Department teaches Chemistry at Key Stage 3, GCSE and A Level. The Head of Department is Mr Richard Tear, who has been in post since September 2014. There are four full-time and one part-time teachers who teach in four fully-equipped laboratories. The subject follows the AQA Certificate (IGCSE) at GCSE and the AQA specification at A Level. The Chemistry teachers are supported by two part-time Chemistry technicians and one Chief Technician who works across science. A variety of different trips are regularly organised for pupils, including laboratory sessions at the University of Bristol, lecture demonstrations and conferences. Additionally, pupils are regularly entered into a number of Chemistry competitions held at local Universities. The Chemistry Department works very closely with the Physics and Biology Departments as part of Science and run a lower school Science Club together, along with periodic trips to local scientific events.
